Security in the Cloud

By 15. April 2015February 15th, 2016Virtualisation

Although the topic of cloud computing is already widely discussed, and the advantages are well seen, there are still reservations when it comes to safety issues. Here there are uncertainties, but with security incidents that threaten quite significant disadvantages and possibly life-threatening, be difficult to repair damage to reputation. What should you do?

Presumably “diffuse” because of the idea that is connected with the concept of cloud, there is often the idea that this could never be really sure, per se. However, this is a mistake! The security of a cloud depends – just like the traditional IT – largely on the competence of the person responsible and the technology used from. Security is of a traditional, physical data center comparable (good or bad) and this may even be superior in some parts. The cornerstone of secure IT, confidentiality, availability and integrity can be more elegant and better implemented than in physical to a virtual environment. Virtualization ensures that originally many physical components can now be centrally managed and monitored. This allows for better control and – subject to adequate mechanisms – including more transparency. A secure and reliable cloud should therefore be implemented as follows:

  1. Based on the cloud is a professional virtualization based on proven and safe products.
  2. Control and transparency should already be created conceptually in the desired solution.
  3. Where possible, applications and terminals should be included in the security area.
  4. The checks must eventually take place at several levels:
    1. You must already exist in the virtualization infrastructure itself and integrated in it.
    2. The administration should be done to consolidate and backed by a role-based access control.
    3. A running reliable and comprehensive monitoring makes it possible to identify risks, analyze and dealt with appropriately.
